I just want to let everyone know that there is a delay in posting to my blog. Should be back soon. I had planned on writing a fairly long blog with updates tonight but we have a little problem we are dealing with. We found a snakeskin IN OUR HOUSE today. Not sure what we are going to do about it. My husband and I are researching. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
Thank you Michele for my Versatile blogger award!. I will address that when I finally get to write my next post.

Saturday September 18 Weigh in
Yo Mama is so fat and after a very bad week, I weighed in 2.5 lbs heavier. After having to put my beloved pet Puff to sleep last week, I have to admit to going back to some of my old eating habit ways. My husband and I ate out more than usual because I didn't feel like cooking, and I ate out several days for my lunch and breakfast on the days that I worked. I am hoping that some of this is water weight from the additional sodium in my diet but we will see. I think I will weigh myself again on Monday and see where my weight is sitting and then hopefully feel a little better.
I apologize to any of my readers for not blogging all week but I do plan on getting back on my horse starting this week coming up! I thank everyone who has either posted their condolences or told me in person or on facebook.
Love to all,
Yo Mama

Friday September 10th -weigh in day
Yo Mama is so fat but not as fat as last week. I lost 1 more lb and am down to 220. A loss of 5.5 lbs so far.
This is a very short post tonight as I had to put one of my cats to sleep this evening. Her name was Puff and I have had her for 13 years. She was a beautiful dark calico and had the silkiest coat of any other cat I have ever petted. She actually was my son's cat but I inherited her when he went off to school. I have 2 other cats but have to admit the Puff was my favorite. She had the sweetest disposition of the three and was very affectionate. For the last 6 months or more, she had started sleeping on my hip at night or any other time she could find me lying down. I now wonder if she didn't know that she was sick and that was her way of comforting herself. I hope she knows that she also comforted me..... She was a good and loving friend. Rest in Peace Puffy. We all loved you and will miss you dearly.

To my Dear Grandson, I made it through our Baltimore Trip
Yo Grandma is so fat and you might not have known it but I was trying to watch what I was eating during our little trip to Baltimore. I didn't do too bad except for that one trip up at the Cheesecake Factory.
You know which one it was.
We basically had 3 meals out during our day trip and I could have done better but I could have done so so much worse.
Meal 1 was dinner at the Cheesecake Factory
Enchiladas (chicken) with Corn Tortillas that came with sweet corn cakes and black beans - I shared a few bites of the Enchiladas with you, skipped most of the corn cakes and ate the black beans.
Then came the Red Velvet Cheesecake that we took back to our room. I just HAD to have it. Remember when we went to Baltimore last year and I didn't get it because there was birthday cake waiting in our room? Well, this year when opportunity knocks......and opportunity was knocking....
The good news is that you and Grandma shared the Cheesecake AND that together we still didn't finish it!
Meal 2 Breakfast/Brunch
Crab Omelette with Boursin Cheese Not sure of the calories in Boursin Cheese
1 slice whole grain toast
1 cup home fried potato cubes
1 slice bacon
orange juice
coffee
Meal 3
Dinner at Burger King
1 Chicken Parmesan Sandwich and a few "borrowed" fries
Iced Tea
So, all in all, not so bad. It could have been much worse. We also did alot of walking and spent about an hour in the swimming pool so Grandma got her exercise. We have alot more of these little trips to do in our future so Grandma needs to keep up watching her weight and doing her exercises.
Grandma needs to keep reminding herself why it is so important to keep losing weight and become more healthy.
Weekends with Grandsons are good reminders :).
I love you Grandson,
Yo Grandma

For the Love of Quinua or (what not to feed my husband)
Your Mama is so fat and so I am always trying to find things that I can eat that are healthy for me. I don't know about your husband and families but my husband is not usually too happy with my healthy choices.
I love pretty much every veggie. His veggie likes are limited to peas, corn, carrots, green beans, and an occassional piece of celery. He is happiest with a large portion of meat, a potato of any kind and corn or peas. Anyone else have a husband like this?
I've tried sneaking some veggies into his food, trying to make his meal a little more healthy and have had varied results. I usually have tried to puree or finely chop veggies like broccoli, onion, or spinach and "hide" it in a dish. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. A couple of times, I have gotten a question like, "Are there onions in this? I taste onions".
"No, honey, there are not any onions in this. It must be your imagination".
It worked! He kept eating, albeit with a confused look on his face.
And there was the time, I put chopped (but not chopped enough) spinach in my hamburger stuffed shells. Well, I can't even say the what the response to that was. He was NOT happy.
Meals are a struggle between making something healthy and making him happy. In the past, I have leaned toward making him happy and that has not been so good for my weight. Now, I do have to take some of the blame because my one of my favorite foods, pasta, is also something that he likes and I have had nooo...none whatsoever problems making that at least once a week. YUM....
So last night was another of those pasta nights and I was trying to see how I could get more of the veggies I love and some non animal protein into my meal. I am trying to cut some of the animal proteins out of my diet and I knew there was no way he would go without his meat. So what to do? Here was my solution and it turned out exceptionally good.
I decided that instead of eating the meatballs my husband had requested, I would replace my meat serving with some Red Quinua I had in my cupboard. If you haven't heard of Quinua, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinoa , or tried it yet, I strongly recommend it. I discovered it several months ago and absolutely love it! Just be careful, it is high in fiber and it might take some getting used to eating it.
You can find it either in the rice or pasta section of your grocer or, if you have an organic section, it may be there. It is super versatile and can be used in all types of dishes ranging from using it as a breakfast "cereal" to using it in soups and casseroles.
I looked in my crisper and pulled out the following:
3 Japanese eggplant (any eggplant will do)
Green Pepper
5 Plum tomatoes
You could use whatever you have in stock, broccoli, onions, artichokes, and carrots would also be good.
I chopped these and threw them into a saute pan with some garlic powder, fresh basil and fresh oregano (dried is ok and season to taste). I added a small amout of salt and some crushed red peppers. I added a litle water and simmered everything until the veggies were tender.
Meanwhile, I heated his meatballs and some Prego Traditional sauce and made Dreamfields Angel Hair Pasta (also high in fiber). I had already cooked the Quinua and set it aside. It takes about 15 minutes to cook.
I added maybe half a cup of the Prego to my homemade veggie mixture to make it a little "tomatoier" and then added it to the Quinua. The result was a very chunky tomato sauce.
Voila! I served him his spaghetti and meatballs and he was happy. I served my veggie mixture a small amout of pasta and added some parmesan cheese and had a dish that was delicious as well as nutritious, high in fiber and animal protein free!
I wish I could get my husband to eat more types of veggies. He is diabetic and needs to eat better. It is a battle that I can't win, however. I am reading more and more about the value of eating all different types of vegetables on our health. I still plan on sneaking a few in on him now and then, but know that I need to eat what my instincts are telling me and what is good for my own health.
If you try my recipe or just try eating the quinua in your own recipe for the first time, enjoy!
Love to all,
Yo Mama

Friday September 3rd Weigh In
Yo Mama is so fat but is another pound lighter this week. Staying away from the goodies in the kitchen paid off ! (See yesterday's post). That makes for a total of 4.5 lbs in 3 weeks and I am happy with that. Weight is now 221.0.
I need to make a few increases and changes to my exercise routine to keep moving forward. Plan for this next week:
Add some dumbell exercises to the triceps and biceps curls I am already doing.
Move the treadmill speed up to 2.9 mph and walk for 40 minutes daily this week instead of the 35 minutes I have been doing. Split the walks into 2-20 minute sessions if I need to.
Continue with the simple yoga moves that I have been doing.
Thank you to my family, my coworkers, my fellow bloggers for your support.

War of the Sweets or (how not to eat the office goodies)
Yo Mama is so fat and part of the reason I am that way is I just cannot say no. I can't say NO to the sweets in the kitchen. But I did today. It was a hard thing to do. We all know how hard it is to diet when all those goodies just keep working their way into the employee kitchen or employee lounge, whichever it is for you. For me, it is the employee kitchen and it is RIGHT outside of my office.
I have to walk through there to go to the bathroom !
Yesterday and today were especially difficult.
Yesterday there was this cake and it looked YUMMY, even from a distance. My strategy was just not to get too close to it but I could tell that it looked like maybe half vanilla and half chocolate. The best of BOTH worlds! I stayed on the other side of the kitchen from the cake.
I knew that if I got too close, I would be a goner.
Today was almost as bad. It looked like some other kind of cake today and I decided my strategy from yesterday worked, so I employed it again today. It worked. No cake for me.
Later in the afternoon, I was bombarded. Leftover goodies from a meeting made their way into the kitchen. Not so bad at first. Just some leftover condiment type items like onions, and hot peppers that I added to my little tomato salad.
An announcement was made that there were more goodies in the kitchen. I hear the other girls in my office go out and look and it sounds like they might have brought something back. I have to be social and partake of the goodies with them, right?? No Carol, you don't. I still go out and look. I HAVE to look.
Fear and relief all at once. I see a whole tray of cookies. All kinds of cookies. Don't look Carol. Don't even look to see what kind they are. I didn't.
Instead, I look at the big tray of fruit that was out there too. I took some of that as well as a couple of olives and pickles that were also out there.
I walked away.....back to the office.
Whew!!
I am safe now.
Tomorrow is weigh in day.
Love Yo Mama
